RAID ATTACK — by FOKO GAMES

A vertical-scrolling shooter for the Atari 2600, a tribute to River Raid.

Fly a rocket through an endless rock canyon: dodge the walls, blast whatever gets in your way and don't run out of energy. Raid Attack brings back the gameplay of River Raid (Activision, 1982) and adds new ideas on top. It's a 4K ROM written from scratch in 6502 assembly and runs on a real Atari 2600 or in an emulator.

Controls

- Left / right: steer

- Up: boost 

- Down:slow down

- Button: fire

- RESET: new game

Energy drains over time; fly over energy cells to refuel, or blow them up for points if you dare. Destroy the force-field gates to save your respawn point. The canyon is always the same, so every run teaches you something for the next one.

What's new compared to the original

- Charged shot: hold the button and every second you fire a wide shot that pierces everything in its path.

- Combo: chain kills without missing and your points multiply up to x4.

- Risky boost: at full speed you burn energy twice as fast, but every kill scores double (up to x8 with a combo).

- Asteroids: falling rocks that bounce from edge to edge and fly over the canyon walls.

How to play

Download `Raid Attack.bin` and open it in [Stella](https://stella-emu.github.io/) (Windows, macOS, Linux) or any Atari 2600 emulator. It also runs on real hardware with a flash cartridge (Harmony, UnoCart, PlusCart…). Format: 4K, NTSC.
