FOKOOM 

FOKOOM is a free demo of DOS GAME STUDIO — a tool for building real DOS games, third of a family after NES GAME STUDIO and ZXS-MAKER.

This is its FPS engine: a Wolfenstein-style raycaster written in pure x86 assembly for DOS real mode and VGA mode 13h. Six episodes of ten floors, four weapons, fifteen enemy types — six of them episode bosses — FM music through AdLib and digitised sound effects through a Sound Blaster.

What the studio is really about: the behaviour is authored as blocks, not code. Keys, locked doors, messages and the story beats are rules compiled to bytecode that the engine executes. The author never sees a number that means something — no flag indices, no tile IDs, no offsets.

How to play

Download, unzip, and run FOKOOM.exe. The emulator is inside the folder: nothing is installed, and nothing is written outside it. Delete the folder and it is gone.

What you are running is a 50 KB .COM file that would boot on a real 386 — no engine, no libraries, no runtime. It is played here through DOSBox Staging, which ships in the same folder.

Controls

W A S D move and strafe · arrows / mouse turn · left click or SPACE fire (hold for automatic) · right click next weapon · 1 2 3 4 pistol, shotgun, chaingun, pickaxe · E use doors and exits · M minimap · R retry · ESC menu · L skip floor (a cheat, so you can see all ten).

Click the game to capture the mouse; ESC releases it. ALT+ENTER toggles fullscreen.
